In an interview with French newspaper L’Equipe, San Antonio’s first overall selection in the NBA Draft, Victor Wembanyama, announced he will be skipping the 2023 FIBA World Cup this summer. It was previously rumored that Wembanyama would be a limited participant in Summer League and play for the French national team in late August.
“It would not be realistic in terms of development and not prudent in terms of health,” Wembanyama told L’Equipe. “I hope people will understand. It’s frustrating for me, too. The France team is still central for me. I want to win as many titles as possible with the team.
